Dogs are smart?

I'm not a "pet person", but I have no problem with people who want to keep animals-who were created to roam and hunt vast geographic areas-penned up in 1/5 acre suburban home lots- hey, it's America! Nothing wrong with the wet mutt smell, I suppose. I'm not in to sharing my bed with a big ole' 120 pound, shedding, slobbering dog, but to each his own, right? Nothing wrong with Rover chewing up the furniture and other valuables in your home, if that's what you're into.

However, I have to draw line somewhere. When a person insists their dog is smart, that's where I get my biggest laugh. Check out the genius above.

I'm gonna' get some comments on this one...

Come on Tony! With a heart as loving, caring and passionate as yours, what is your problem with dogs? Obviously you have never had the rich blessing of loving and living, side by side, with 2 wonderful Westies! Our dogs are the smartest dogs ever! Mickey and Minnie need to talk to you!

I knew I would get some impassioned responses! More power to you folks who love them mongrels. I confess, I need growth in the area of compassion for pets.

Please do not grow any compassion. Dogs are not smart, just very instinctive at times when humans have been told that behavior is smart.

Tony, shouldn't we all see a perfect picture of Christ's unfailing, AGAPE love towards us uncovered in the character of these blessed pets?
You can abuse them, ignore them, not feed them, yell at them, tell them they are stupid, push them away, refuse to allow them to jump on your lap, and even kick them, but like Jesus, they just look at you as to say, “I love you anyway. I am sorry you can’t see how far, how deeply and how passionately my love for you goes. But understand, your feelings for me don’t matter….. When you are ready to receive me, I will rejoice and be exceedingly glad! But in the mean time, just know that I love you unconditionally! For I will continue to “knock on your doorway to your heart.” But to have access into your world, you will have to open the door and let me in.”
