Look what I'm missing

I interrupt my meditation on the Tower of Babel incident to draw your attention to this very recent story about "man's best friend":

Woman Killed by Her Own Pet Dog
Monday, June 18, 2007

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — A one-year-old chow mix apparently turned on its owner, killing her with bites to her throat and arm, authorities said.

Phyllis G. Carroll, 63, was mauled by one of her two black chow mix dogs around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, said Fayette County Coroner Joe Todd.

Both dogs were seized and will be destroyed at the request of the victim's family, he said.
Carroll kept the dogs, a male and female from the same litter, in a yard behind her home in Connersville. There were no witnesses, but Todd said authorities believed the male dog, which was the larger of the two, attacked Carroll.

The dog bit Carroll in the arm as she carried treats out from the house, then bit her throat after she fell to the ground. Eight sets of bite marks were found on Carroll, Todd said. She bled to death from her wounds, he said.

Wow...look what I'm missing not having a dog.

Are you defining "wimp" as someone who doesn't prefer being mauled by a dog and left to bleed to death from gaping teeth wounds to the jugular?

I guess I'm a "wimp" then.

Speaking of mankind’s depravity and total disregard of self-discipline…. How is it that so many people, who can barely afford food for their children, seem to be the ones guilty of allowing packs of wild and ferocious dogs to become dangerous “guards“ with no regards for safeguards? My wife and I recently visited our niece and discovered she was living in a trailer park with her mother and 4 older ½ sisters who together had 10 small children. There were no father’s around but they did have 2 pit-bull terriers “pets” existing in the same very cramped living quarters. No wonder why little kids are viciously mauled by unmanageable dogs? You can’t always blame the just the mutt!

Obviously the dogs were confused over which was the snack and which was the lady carrying the snacks.

What a sad thing. Noting the breed, I'm not surprised. Two breeds of dogs are regarded as so unstable that Humane Society chapters refuse to offer them for adoption, sending them instead to the doggie gas chamber at the first opportunity. These two breeds are responsible for the overwhelming majority of fatal dog attacks, many of which are attacks on the owner's family. Any guesses? I suppose the first is obvious: Chow. The second is not much harder: Pit Bull. You'd probably be safer keeping pet bears.

I once had a dog that was half Chow Chow and half French Poodle. It wasn't much of a watch dog, but it was a vicious gossip.

I once had a do that was a cross between a bull dog and a Shih-tzu...you can guess what name came from that dog...
