Time to Cash out, don't blame it on Joe

Joe Torre is not the Yankees problem, Brian Cashman is. Steinbrenner has given him the largest budget in baseball and he has managed to overpay everyone except Jeter and A-Rod (and we didn't need A-Rod, we needed pitching). Giambi for $25 million? Give me a break! He wasn't worth that when he was on steroids.
Joe Torre is an average manager, but an excellent personality juggler. That's what the Yankees have needed for the past 12 years- all playoff years. Further, Joe Torre is a class act working for a pretty fickle, jerky guy. If I were Torre, I'd quit and wait for the MLB Commissioner job- he'd make a great commish.

Unfortunately, I think we're going to lose Posada next year- that'll be a sizable loss. Mariano Rivera is on the decline, so losing him won't be devastating. A-Rod can go choke in the playoffs for someone else. The Rocket should now retire for good. Mussina needs to become a middle reliever, at a high price unfortunately, another Cashman blunder. All these guys gone will mean a bunch more money to spend. If Cashman is still the GM (and all indications look like he will be), he'll probably squander it on some big name guys on the decline. If I were GM, I'd go after the top two free agent pitchers, re-sign Pettite, keep Wang, and pick up a solid third baseman when A-Rod leaves. The 1996 Yanks, my favorite in the recent era, had a bunch of ham-n-eggers who jelled well as a team and won the World Series. We need to return to that. Pitching, pitching, pitching. Maybe David Cone will come out of retirment?

Steinbrenner will probably fire Torre- or they'll work out some "graceful" exit for him. That's too bad, Cashman is the one who should be whacked. No doubt.

Yankees Getting Knocked Out Of The Playoffs Day is becoming one of my favorite fall traditions. Next up, Reformation Day!

According to MLB the ‘Stros were knocked out the playoffs on September 14, 2007, which for us Yankee fans and especially us Cardinal fans in the National League Central was a day marked by rejoicing with every glass of Minute Maid Orange Juice while burning our Enron stock options that morning.

As for rather Cashman should be fired, I would agree provided they replace him by rehiring George Costanza, former "Assistant to the Traveling Secretary" for the New York Yankees.

If we remember my favorite episode of Seinfeld, “The Opposite”

Mr. Cushman : Ah, Mr. Steinbrenner, sir. There's someone here I'd like you to meet. This is Mr. Costanza. He's one of the applicants.
Mr. Steinbrenner : Nice to meet you.
George : Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress, as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego!
Mr. Steinbrenner : Hire this man!

As I shared with Tony earlier it is ashame that such "A Class Act!" like Joe Torre will be cast aside and as much as I like "Donny Baseball" Mattingly I would hate to see him to get the axe like Buck Showalter did after 1995 season after losing to the Mariners.

To be fair, the Astros were knocked out of the play-offs sometime in April.
