I took 4 years of Frech, and if I'm not mistaken, it says something like, "Announcing the opening of the great dog butcher. The first creation(?) in Paris"Unless "boucherie canine" is some kind of French figure of speech, it's a dog butcher... yummy!!
Well I'll be a dirty bird! Can you imagine a Dog Butcher! How'd I get this on my blog?
I took German and believe it says, like all French, "We shall wave the white flag or die trying."
Come on guys, we all know this sign was just promoting the new French gourmet product called the Frankfurt or a “Hot Dog”! In the 1690’s the popular sausage (known as "dachshund" or "little-dog" sausage) was created in the late 1600s by Johann Georghehner, a butcher living in Coburg, Germany. It is said that he later traveled to Frankfurt to promote his new product and this was his sign!.
Wow, I thought I was going to be limited to returning to South Korea to have such a wonderful delicacy. Now that I know France has established itself as having such fine cuisine, I might consider returning to Europe for a vacation. In case anybody decides to visit S. Korea may I suggest boshintang or duruchigi. The later is a tasty barbequed marinated meat dish with mixed vegetables while the former is a delicious soup that is traditionally eaten in June to beat the heat. Below is a link to a picture showing a very nutritious S. Korea meal - Do you know where Sparky is? http://images-cdn01.associatedcontent.com/image/A1029/102962/300_102962.jpg
Great post Tom!
Sehr gut, Herr Hough!I thought it said, "Let the Big Dog Eat," but that may just be a golfing expression.
Hey now don't be dissing the Koreans. I was there (1987-92) up to my knees in rice paddies watching the Gulf War on CNN. You know you are eating dog when it smells like a wet dog or as the Koreans call it Kae Gogi, Kae meaning Dog Gogi meaning Meat. Another reason not to diss them is that they have the most Reform population in all of Asia, hence the term FROZEN CHOSUN. If you want to experience good Korean food go to 7800 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Shawnee Mission, KS to Four Seasons Asian Restaurant and say Kim chi Please! My favorite Pics from Korea are located at http://www.flickr.com/photos/calohan/sets/72157600738632383/
rick, I not be dissing Korea. It is my 2d favorite country and people. My favorite language is Hongul - I just wish I could speak it a lot better. I also think they have the BEST food in the world - wether it be sparky or tweety.
You dudes are awesome. Sparky or Tweety...That's priceless!
