We're getting close

I washed my early season hunting clothes today, doing my best to make them all smell like fresh dirt.

I'm taking my field tips off my arrows and replacing them with razor sharp broadheads this week.

I need to tweak my 30 yard pin.

I need to buy a new rattle bag.

I need to hang another tree stand or two.

We're getting close.

I'm right there with you. My wife makes fun of my "dirt smell spray". She just doesn't get it. Right now, I have my camo hanging on the deck railing airing out after a good treatment of Carbon Blast 2 days ago. Next will be the dirt spray.

I'm sighted in pretty good up to about 35 yards right now. I don't need anything longer than that, since i only hunt in the woods. I've had to change the distances that my pins are set at since i started shooting carbon. There's not much drop between 20 & 30 yards anymore, so my top pin is good for anything from 10 - 30 yards. Right now, my second pin is almost dead on at about 35 yards. This weekend, I'll go to my neighbor's backyard range to shoot from 45 just to see what happens.

Early season opens here on Saturday, Sept 13. If we get a nice cooler day like we've had lately, I'm going out first thing that morning. I have a new place to hunt this year, so I'm looking forward to some good bambi action. When does your season open?

I can't tell you how anxious I am for bow season. Since I got the big goose egg last year, I'm really feelin' the need for some sweet tasty venison. I can't wait to put a 7595 carbon with 125 grains of muzzy through a providentially provided venison wagon.

Great post Jeff. I love the "providentially provided venison wagon". My prayer is the "wagon" will come with some serious "horns". I screwed in my Muzzys and carefully loaded my quiver yesterday. The first broadhead practice was Saturday for me and the yearly sigh came out "Man I forgot how touchy broadheads are compared to my fieldpoints". We start on the 22nd and can hunt during the early muzzleloader season. Thankfully the spots I'm hunting I should be all alone, but just beside me on 2 sides there may me some old "smokepolers". I am counting down the days, but I know I need to keep my cool when the younger bucks go by so I can hold out for "Mr. Big".

Pastor Tony, I showed my partner, (a real true outdoor sportsmen) your thoughts today, and he ask, what kind of bow and equipment do you support?

Jeff- this will be your year, you gotta believe!

Woodster- I shoot a Ross 331 set at 68 pounds. I use Easton carbon arrows with a 100 grain, 3 blade Muzzy broadhead (bad to the bone).

nathan -

i'm hoping for some big rack action this year, but in NJ, you can only shoot does from 9/13-10/4 and from 10/4 on, you have to shoot a doe first before you can bag a buck. Plus, you have to pay an extra $28 for a special buck tag before you can shoot it. Hooray for NJ, the greediest state in the nation...

After hearing your sermon yesterday, September 7th, my senses were assaulted by your "need to buy" statements. NEED???
Tsk, tsk, Tony

bowhunting stuff is a necessity- food, shelter, and bowhunting stuff.

Ahh, I see now. It is much like golf stuff for mental health and relaxation. Now it makes sense. I am going out and buy the new driver I need. Thanks for the clarification

No, Golf does not equal bowhunting, so you're on your own.

No Tony, golf does not equal bow hunting. We don't roll our clothes in dirt or spread female urine around to attract the big boys. We just need plaid pants to go after the wild game of birdies and eagles. Plus this great game gave us the subject forCaddy Shack. You can't tell me bow hunting has a movie legacy like this, other than when John Voigt got buck fever in deliverance. Caddy Shack contained such refined literary discourse as Rodney Dangerfield saying to Ted Knight, "Hey, when you bought that hat did you get a free bowl of soup? It looks good on you though."

Very misleading Malcolm...

"spread female urine" ?

Come on now. It's urine from a doe that is in estrous, not just any urine.
