One NFL Certainty...

I have been practicing restraint in gloating about my Buffalo Bills 4-0 start to this year's NFL season. I am not nearly as emotionally involved with NFL football as I once was, but I do enjoy watching the Bills do well. They have a very good team assembled this year, we'll see what happens.

Another plot I enjoy is watching certain teams and players blow up during the course of a season. I often take ridicule from jealous friends about the way my Yankees spend money to acquire players in MLB. They have nothing on the Dallas Cowboys. Still, despite all the money being spent to buy another Superbowl, next to death and taxes the only thing more certain is Terrell Owens blowing up before the season is over. Watching Dallas is like a Soap Opera for men. I can't wait to see how T.O. screws things up in the Big D.
It will happen, just watch.

So this is what you do when the Yankees (highest payroll in American sports) fail to make the playoffs. I think I would actually like to see them make the playoffs given the options.

Don’t you know the great Tom Landry is rolling over in his grave!

The NY (NJ) Giants are also undefeated as of yet. Just thought I'd point that out. You know, the Super Bowl Champs?

Ah Jeff, that's right. The New Jersey Giants. I almost forgot about them.

I'm only really interested in NY teams, sorry.

Hough- Come on, I know you like overpaid and underachieving athletes. Heck, you named your son after the biggest one....

I think forcing Joe Torre out and extending Cashman & A-Rods shows that the big apple does not fall far from the tree with Steinbrenner boys. As we can see the Dodgers under Joe Torre are in and the Yankees under Cashman are out! May the new House that the Tax Payers Built usher in another 39 American League pennants and another 26 World Series titles!

As for the Houghsters Stros they finished 3 games behind the Yanks, not bad for the Minute Maid Enron Colt 45’s a half game ahead of the Redbirds, and once again are not in the playoffs, perhaps little Beckham can turn that team around in about 16 years!

Go Steelers!

Yes, Dallas has ego issues, coming first and foremost from Jerry Jones. But, that's who I grew up cheering and maybe one day decency will come back to Dallas. In the meantime, they can have their kicks entertaining everyone and building mansionesque stadiums, but that never never ensures a Superbowl (or even one playoff game for that matter). I like the overachieving Bills and Titans.

In other news ... an otherwise respected blogger took a credibility hit today with this comment:

"[The Yankees] have nothing on the Dallas Cowboys."

Apparently, he forgot that in one sport there is a salary cap, so that no team can spend more money than the others.

In the other league one team can have a payroll nearly 10 times (10x) that of another team.

For example, in 2008 the Yankess payroll was $209 million. The Florida Marlins was $21 million.

The average salaries were $6.7 million and $661,000 respectively.

Trust me, my favorite Cowboys hater, no team anywhere has anything on the Yankees in that regard.

comparing figures between MLB and NFL is apples/oranges.

It's a philosophical matter, the Yanks have nothing on the Cowboys on that front.

As for the NFL salary cap, the major loophole is the "signing bonus" and long term contracts. They get around the salary cap, don't you worry.
