Rich, Effective, Satire

There just doesn't seem to be much in the way of effective satire in the Church these days. Someone just sent me a link to the following article that will introduce you to a stellar exception.
It's in response to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ELCA) virtual approval of homosexual practice characterized most vividly when they recently voted to accept actively homosexual persons as members of their clergy and to condone gays and lesbians living in “lifelong, monogamous same-gender relationships.” Check out the brilliant satirical response here:

Temple Prostitution: A Modest Proposal by Peter Speckhard

Thanks Lance!

Creepy how similar the line of argument is to the homosexual clergy one. I know that is the point, but still creepy

Brilliant! The sad thing is that this kind of rationalization is used all too often by "church leaders" today in our "post-Christian" culture.

On the other hand, you know, since our church has been very active in mercy ministry, especially as of late, we should consider what Speckhard says: "Think of the money we could raise to feed the hungry! Or do you want them to starve because of your puritan hang-ups?" I mean why not, then we could be like every other pagan religion in history!

That piece is right-on. Thanks for sharing!

The irony of satire is the truth in the message. Sadly, the ECLA like the Episcopalians in American, and in a few PCUSA churches and presbyteries, along with other mainline churches are so wrapped up in the social gospel that they preach no gospel at all.

I recall the discussion I had with my former pastor/mentor about the More Light Presbyterians and how the issue at the time was a clause in the Book of Order about elders and ordained members should remained chaste in singleness and monogamous in marriage. Well, that too should apply to all members of the body of Christ. However, vaguely recalling this too was opening the door to ordination of openly homosexual clergy. Finding loopholes and vague interpretations of the Book of Order, the argument being that while homosexual they were remaining chaste if they should be ordained officially it read:

“There are three sentences in G 6.0106b. The second is the relevant sentence on the question of sexual activity by any human being who aspires to ordained office in the PCUSA. It reads, "Among these standards is the requirement to live either in fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman (W-4.9001), or chastity in singleness."

In fact pastors in some congregations were blessing or performing civil unions among same gender couples.

When you have pastors who do not preach the Gospel, and these same pastors not following the Book of Order, and motions to vote on this issue until they succeed at every general assembly with more and more votes moving closer and closer to the goal then for all intensive purposes your church has become APOSTATE!

Christ came to save sinners, love the sinner hate the sin. Homosexuality by definition is a sin, and a lifestyle choice/preference. While it can be argued that you were born that way, we are all born sinners; we are all tainted with original sin. Therefore you can not excuse the act, and homosexuals who still practice homosexuality are non-repentant sinners, therefore like fornicators and adulterers will not enter the Kingdom of God.

2 Corinthians 12:21
I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced.

It’s a dangerous thing to read this articulate, well thought through article and not wonder, “How long will it be until any such dialog is outlawed, daring to express such truth, one would be arrested, and then subject to a jury’s decisions for “hate-crimes violation.” “Freedom of speech?” not if it involves expressions that go against our sin-sick, sex-crazed, politically-over-corrected culture.
