New Wizards Stadium approved!

As a soccer fan and KC Wizards season ticket holder, I'm super pumped final approval for the new soccer-specific stadium was granted today.

Construction literally starts immediately.

The new Wizards stadium (yet to be officially named) will be located in the Legends shopping area out near the KC Speedway. It will be directly across from Nebraska Furniture Mart. I think it's a great location for the stadium. Hats off to Rob Heineman and the rest of the ownership group for making this happen. Their commitment to KC has been steadfast. I hope KC rallies to support the team. A new stadium of this caliber should be a great draw.

It will likely open in the middle of the 2011 season. I can't wait.

New name for the stadium "The Cauldron" comes to mind.

This is certainly welcomed news for all of us in the KC area. Even though this huge project doesn’t directly affect my business, it is construction and any building right now is great!

I haven't followed this issue, and I'm not critical of the vote. I am curious, though, about what was wrong with CommunityAmerica Ballpark? The Wizards have obviously been using it and it's very close to where the new stadium will be, so I'm just wondering why it was rejected as a permanent venue. Was CAB not big enough? Not good for watching soccer? Or what?

Joe, CAB is an absolutley HORRIBLE set up. Horrible. Plus, it only seats 11,000 fans. You need 20k plus to make it profitable.

Besides the horrible seating, the field is the smallest legal size it can be. That makes it hard to play on.

Did I mention CAB is horrible?

Soccer, I don't get it. You can't use your hands?

Malcolm, you can use your hands- the goalie does. Players do when they throw the ball in. Lenin Guerra does when he pulls the shirts of his opponents to get around them.

Malc, being from Oklahoma, we know that ww do everything with our hands, even talk.

Hey, I stumbled upon your quoting of one of my Sabres articles and started to look around your site to find this post. I love soccer (TFC season ticket holder) and the park looks neat. If you're interesting in supporting or know people in Buffalo interested in supporting our new local NPSL club that I own, please pass them along to this:

Thanks for reading my stuff,
