HCA Mascot

Choosing a mascot is one of the thousands of decisions to be made.

The Heritage Christian Academy school board and administration discussed various possibilities and narrowed it down to three choices for the students to vote on today. Here are the finalists (can you guess which one was my suggestion?):

1. The Sabres

2. The Defenders

3. The Chargers

Though I submitted the first one, I really like the Chargers. Whichever it is, the above picture is a rough prototype of our mascot's picture. Each suggestion represents a biblical theme.

By tomorrow we shall know our school mascot...

I personally think "Defenders" is a fitting mascot. If you go with Sabres, you might get made fun of for being named for a second-rate hockey team.

The Heritage Defenders has a more all-encompassing feel to it. Great job on designing the logo, by the way! Looks awesome!

HA HA Jeff. I will give you this- NJ's hockey team name is the most fitting match with it's city I can think of. :)

So I guess “The Covenanters” did not get past the nominating committee. However, when I see the prototype I can only think of “Knights” or “Crusaders.”

I agree with Jeff on the Defenders but I think Chargers will win out. Just hope you guys don’t drastically change too much the WA Crest.

PS: By the way the Devils were once the KC Scouts.

Rick J suggested "The Highlanders", which is cool. I also suggested the "Huguenots"!!!! The only French thing I ever liked besides Calvin.

Yes, they were also the Colorado Rockies, BUT they weren't great until they came to NEW JERSEY!!!!

I think I'd like to change my vote to "Chargers". I like the offensive sound instead of the defensive connotation of "defenders".

How about the TULIPS? :)

Seriously, though, good names and a cool mascot. Looks a little mean, though, don't you think? I know you're going for tough, but he sort of reminds me of a bad guy from LOTR.

Zach, you are on to something. Maybe we could stick a tulip in the Knight's helmet? :)

In all seriousness, why is there a piece of metal missing from the knight's sword? That doesn't look right.

BT, the chip is from battling dude.

Well, with all due respect, pastor, if we go with the biblical analogy...that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God (Eph. 6:17)(my paraphrase), which I believe that's what you would be going for there...that the Word of God is always fresh, sharp, adequate, never failing to do its' job, ever, etc., I can't imagine wanting any kind of a picture of a dinged-up sword, especially when nothing else about the knight's look is battle weary.

You're reading too much in to it BT. It's a mascot.
