Schaeffer on the Gospel

Here's a video clip of Dr. Schaeffer pretty close to the end of his life, around 1983 I believe.

As much as I enjoy watching old video clips and listening to sermons and lectures, it's his books I cherish most. I plan to re-read "True Spirituality" this year.

I loved the peak at his own personal SWORD. Well worn, marked boldly with the stains of truth from his own pen, from putting on his own armor, this great man of God has courageously used in many battles. His bold stand for absolute truth, talking about the flow of history that began in Genesis 1. His statement that “The Bible gives us a world view of order and freedom that flows together simultaneously”, wouldn’t be well received in our emergent churches today. I loved his “sermon on the mount” and thought it was interesting his mention of John 1:29, “Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world”, this was the topic you were teaching on last Sunday morning’s class. Pastor, who do you think today is adequate to carries his mantle? Doctor David Calhoun for sure, who else?

That looks like the same Bible now in the

Francis Schaeffer Collection
. You can see how it is all marked up! One of the guys on the Schaeffer FB Group said he used to sit and listen to Edith teach out of it. He said she liked to use it because it was all marked with notes to help teach. Another wonderful Schaeffer moment.
