The terrible toll of addiction

Unless you live under a rock, you know that Whitney Houston died earlier this week, no doubt from something drug and alcohol related. She was only 48.  I'm not a huge pop fan, but like Michael Jackson, she was a hugely influential American musical artist and entertainer who self-destructed. At the top of her game in the early 90's, she was the best.

If you wonder the toll drug addiction takes, watch these two videos of the same song. The first was in 1994 with Whitney at her prime.  The second is from a year ago.

How tragic! How sad, listening to the attempt of her trying to sing her pop song from the Body Guard. It looked to me as if she was so high on drugs she couldn’t even remember the lyrics. I remember back in the mid 90's, Cheri and I had tickets to see her at Starlight, and the week before we got a notice that the concert had been canceled. Wonder why?

Very sad. A very gifted voice. Can you imagine how she could have contributed to modern Christian Contemporary music. Just don't understand wasting all that talent.
