The Sons of Liberty- Johnny Tremain blast from the past!

On this Fourth of July 2013 I am taken back to a classic 1957 film I saw in 6th grade- Johnny Tremain. Yes, It's a tall old tree and a strong old tree...yes we are the sons! We are the sons! The sons of liberty!

This is one of our family favorite movies. My seminarian daughter also referenced it in her facebook post. Good for you! Liberty is the banner under which we gather as free Americans and as condemned sinners saved by grace. By the sacrifice and shed blood of others we have been saved in both instances.

A great Walt Disney classic! Yes, and I cried when they had to put Old Yeller down. Bet ole Walt would turn over in his grave if he saw the trash being vomited out on the big screen poisoning our kids minds. Even Disney Movies have to be screened for sex and violence.

I still remember reading "Johnny Tremain" in 7th grade. It was a great book. However, I was stunned to eventually find out that the book was written in the early 1940s. I'd thought for years afterward that the book was written much nearer to the American Revolution. I don't know why I didn't know this until years later. I don't remember hearing it from the Social Studies teacher; and, I don't even remember looking at the front of the book, at the copyright date.

BTW, I can't say I'd even ever heard that Disney made the book into a movie. I surely never saw it.
